Born in 1952, Vinod Sharma studied at the Delhi College of Arts, where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts in 1976, after which he went on to receive his Master’s degree from the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda in 1978.
Sharma mainly turns to the landscape as inspiration for his work. He likes to experience landscapes himself and then recreate them, using subdued colors with thin oils. His primary objective is to give his viewers an opportunity to experience the untouchable distances. Because of his use of colour, his paintings seem very serene and blissful. He also concentrates on the texture in his works, as he studied printmaking in his initial student years.
The artist’s work has been featured in solo exhibitions in Mumbai, New Delhi, Kochi, Hyderabad, Baroda, Kolkata and Chandigarh. Group exhibitions in which his works have been showcased include those at Gallery Joie at Shridharani Gallery, New Delhi, in 2008; Visual Arts Gallery, New Delhi, in 2006 and 2003; and a show presented by Arushi Arts at Visual Art Gallery, New Delhi, in 2001.
Sharma has received several awards, some of which include a Senior Art Fellowship in Painting from the Government of India in 1999; the Sahitya Kala Parishad in 1998; a prize from the Rajasthan Lalit Kala Akademi, Jaipur, in 1992; and a prize at the All India Graphics Exhibition, Chandigarh, in 1984.
